Caravan California - 2004

Our Caravan group went to Jullian, California to do really nasty work. We cleared dead trees and brush away from homes and homesites so that another fire would not be as devastating as the one that destroyed 600 homes here last year. It’s hard work, and we’re black with soot by the end of the day – not a pretty site! What has been great is the way people here have taken us in…

…On the first day, one man told me that if it hadn’t been for the church groups, most people would have gotten little more than a small check or loan to rebuild their lives.

…The coordinator we’re working with found a pool that we could cool down in after hearing several of our group talk about jumping in a lake they saw along the way.
