Disciple Bible Study - An in-depth, 9-month program to help persons develop a biblically informed faith. Through individual study and weekly group discussion and reflection, Disciple is about transforming lives and equipping persons to faithfully live as disciples of Jesus Christ. We offer Disciple I, II, III & IV.

Jesus in the Gospels - For graduates of Disciple I, we offer Jesus in the Gospels, the first study in a new line called Disciple Second Generation Studies. At the heart of this in-depth study of the four portraits of Jesus is the question, 'Who is Jesus?'  Classes start in September.

Ongoing Classes

Questing for New Images of God  - 9:40-10:40am - Joy Jamison and Jeanice Bush, Continuous Questers for what life is all about.  Those of us in Questing are always asking questions. What does God look like? What does Jesus want us to do? How can God help me to do what I know I should do? It has been said that life is about a journey, not a destination. Questing is constantly on a journey. Books and articles (and videos in the summer) guide us. If you’re a searcher, join us.

Singling - Join us for our Sunday  Sundays, Ongoing, Year–round 9:40–10:40 am Leader: Gwen Balk, St. Andrew member and past chair of Pathways, who loves the community that develops when we share our beliefs, concerns and ideas.  Singling is a process of trying to discern our place within the larger community whether we are single by design, delay, death or divorce. We meet to explore our faith and offer support to each other. Come share in the fellowship – all are welcome.

This year we will offer short book studies in six eight–week cycles. The first Sunday in each cycle will be a social hour to get to know each other and discuss the upcoming book or topic for the next six weeks. The 8th week in the cycle will include guest speakers on various topics and issues. Our main theme is increasing our religious literacy–– we will be reading from a variety of books from many religious backgrounds, starting with Religious Literacy, What Every American Needs to Know and Doesn’t by Stephen Prothero and The World’s Religions: Our Great Wisdom Traditions by Huston Smith.

The CORD - Young Adult Ministries - Sunday mornings at 9:40 The CORD is the young adult ministry at St Andrew designed for singles and couples in their 20s and 30s, some with children, some without. Our name reflects the three–fold strength of a cord and the strength in numbers noted in Ecclesiastes 4:12. We have strength in our group and through the three things we do together: study, fellowship (a fancy church word for getting together and hanging out), and acts of service (because it’s not always all about us). In our reading and discussions we strive to deepen our spirituality and examine contemporary issues that matter to people in their 20s and 30s, like jobs, promotions, family, diversity and meaning. We attempt to answer some big questions: Why am I here? Is this all there is? Is it OK with God if I watch “Deal or No Deal?”

For our Sunday morning book study, the group selects books that match our interests and life challenges as we go along. Recent book studies have included Reading the Bible from the Margins by Miguel De La Torre, and World Religions by Adam Hamilton. Karl Barth said, “Preachers should preach with the Bible in one hand and the newspaper in the other.” The CORD wants to add Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, Sports Illustrated and the remote control. This is what we want to do in this class, where the real world and God’s world collide.

Having said that, we aren’t just about church. We like to go out and have fun, too. We get together once a month for CORD: On the Town. We meet at some fun spot to eat, drink and enjoy each other’s company...you know, just like “regular” people. Anyway, if you are looking for people who aren’t afraid to think seriously about God but also love a good time...have we got a group for you! Serious about God/Serious about fun...doing good along the way.

Beginnings

Learn more about this congregation, the Christian faith, the Methodist tradition, the Bible, and how or where you might connect with others. The following courses are designed to be foundational in your education/spiritual formation experience.

You will learn what makes St. Andrew special and become acquainted with staff and fellow explorers. You can then determine you level of commitment and decide if you wish to become a member of St. Andrew.  See Calendar page for scheduled times.

Uniquely You… Finding Your Place in God’s World

Have you been feeling that God is calling you to do something but you’re not sure what? Have you ever had a volunteer experience that left you feeling frustrated or exhausted? Would you like to be more active at St. Andrew, but aren’t sure where or how? Each of us is unique – with our individual gifts, abilities, dreams, and preferences. This study will help you discover more about yourself and discern how you might best serve God in a way that you will find joyful, fulfilling and life-giving. Melanie Rowlison, Connections Ministry, who has served on the St. Andrew staff for the past 15 years, and others lead this class.  You can sign up at the Pathways Desk. Wednesdays, Apr 2 & 9 6:30-8:30pm.

So What About Methodism?

Join Rev. Cindy Bates - What does it really mean to be a United Methodist? Do you want to learn about our faith tradition? Are you new to Methodism or want a refresher? The class will give you a greater understanding of what it means to be a United Methodist. Sundays, Apr 6-20, 11:05am-12:05pm.

Breaking Ground

This class will help us get better acquainted with the basics of "our Book." We will learn where well know verses are found, what  the numbers "4:11" mean, and how we might relate the Bible to real life.

Teach Me To Pray: An Introduction to Prayer

Prayer is vital to our relationship with God but sometimes we don't know how to pray. Come and discover what method nourishes your time with God. Classes will include lecture, discussion and experiences of prayer with Rev. Cindy Bates. We’re sorry, but due to a schedule conflict, this class needs to be postponed to a later date.  Please watch this space, the bulletin or Messenger for rescheduling information.
