When Jesus
approaches the persons who will be his first disciples, does he ask
them to worship him or to follow him? What do you think the
difference is? What do you see people doing today with
Jesus-worshiping him or following him?

In this first
chapter of Mark’s gospel, what is Jesus mostly doing? What might
this mean for what the community of Christ should be doing today if
we want to imitate Jesus?

Jesus is portrayed
healing many people in these first few verses. What are they being
healed from? What difference is there between being healed and being
cured? What do you need to be healed from? Have you asked Christ for
that?

The people who
wrote the Bible believed in demons and believed that people could be
possessed by demons. How might we explain that today? What other
ways that they explained things around them might be seen
differently and explained differently today?

Mark tells us that
Jesus faithfully observed the Sabbath on a regular basis. How might
this be an example for you?

Next week we will
see Jesus having conflicts and arguments with some people in chapter
2 of Mark. Who are the people he had the most trouble with? Who
might he have the most trouble with today? Did Jesus ever criticize
anyone, and if so, whom and why?
