Sermon Study Guide Week of Sunday, January 8, 2006Questions from the StreetWHY DID GOD LET MY FRIEND DIE? When in your life did you find yourself asking why God let something happen the way it happened? What answer did you arrive at? How do you see God involved in the pain and suffering of life? Does God send those events to us or is God able to work through the random and painful events to bring forth something good? Do you believe there are accidents in life or do you believe that “everything happens for a reason”? How does Jesus answer the question about “accidents” and random events in Luke 13:1-5? Where have you seen God bring forth something good and hopeful out of tragedy and suffering? In the story of Job in the Bible, when Job is innocent but in pain, his friends try to help him see how he must have done many wrong things to deserve his suffering and try to help him identify his wrongdoing so he can apologize to God. How would you feel if you were Job and you had friends like this? What does the story of Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection have to say to us about God bringing good out of evil, light out of darkness? |
