on Being True to Who You Are ~ by Harvey Martz

  1. Dietrich Bonhoeffer was a theologian and leader against the Nazis in WWII. In his book “Costly Discipleship” he says that our Christian faith has to cost us something, require something of us to be authentic. What would you say that your faith is costing or requiring of you?

  2. When did you first choose to become a follower of Jesus? What other times have there been when you had to redecide about following Christ?

  3. If we FOLLOW Christ, Marcus Borg says, we will be concerned about and passionate about what Jesus was passionate and concerned about. What was that? What are you most concerned about?

  4. What do you think should happen, if anything, when politicians preach about “family values” and then are shown to have frequented prostitutes on many occasions?

  5. Look at the list of the Seven Habits of Highly Effective Christians on the front of your bulletin. Which of these habits do you feel you are following fairly well? Which of these do you need God’s help with in improving?

  6. What is the promise Jesus makes in Mark 8 about how to find the best life possible? What have you found in other arenas when you lose yourself passionately in something more important than just yourself?

  7.  How would your friends and neighbors respond to the question about whether you are truly a follower of Christ? What evidence would they name for your answer?
